ABOUT PIVI

PIVI’s mission is to reduce the global disease burden from influenza and other respiratory viruses and improve national and global capacity to respond to pandemics and other epidemic threats.

Seasonal influenza programs lay the groundwork for pandemic response.

The Partnership for International Vaccine Initiatives (PIVI) is a key program of The Task Force for Global Health. A public/private program, PIVI works in partnership the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Ministries of Health, corporate partners, and others to create sustainable respiratory virus vaccination programs in low- and middle-income countries.

PIVI’s work has expanded and we have changed our name to reflect this broader mission. Launched in 2013 as the Partnership for Influenza Vaccine Introduction, PIVI successfully built seasonal influenza programs to help protect communities from the annual impact of influenza while building the vaccine delivery systems critical for endemics and pandemics. In 2020, these influenza programs proved critical in the efficient distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. Building on the successful PIVI model, the CDC partnered with The Task Force for Global Health to create the COVID-19 Vaccine Implementation Program (CoVIP).

PIVI works in concert with WHO and WHO Regional Offices to help countries prepare for pandemic influenza, and other respiratory pandemic threats, and to support countries’ efforts to control and prevent seasonal influenza. This important work is ultimately supported by a country’s Ministry of Health – protecting communities from the annual impact of influenza while building the vaccine delivery systems critical for endemics and pandemics.

Our History

In 2011, Walgreens approached the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with a question: Could donated excess influenza vaccine help a low-income country with its influenza program?

WHERE WE WORK.
