Armenia Demonstrates the Health and Economic Value of Influenza Vaccination
Armenia Celebrates Pivotal Success in Seasonal Influenza Program with PIVI and CDC Partners
Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU), in collaboration with The Partnership for International Vaccine Initiatives and the US CDC, hosted a major conference presenting the health and economic impact of Armenia’s seasonal influenza vaccination program from 2017–2024. Armenia has been a regional success story for influenza vaccination. An evaluation supported by PIVI has shown that the national influenza vaccination program has prevented thousands of illnesses over this time period—averaging 2,440 cases per season among children alone—with the vast majority of averted cases occurring within high-risk populations. The evaluation also demonstrated that every $1 USD invested in pediatric flu vaccination yielded up to $3.17 USD in returns to the health system and population, proving the program’s exceptional health impact and economic success.
