A new CDC evaluation found that over a 10-year period, influenza vaccination of children was 80% effective in preventing influenza-associated deaths in children. It was effective both in children with and without underlying medical conditions that put them in high risk. This work confirms earlier studies and provides new and compelling data that influenza vaccination saves children’s lives. PIVI will continue to support the expansion of influenza immunization programs worldwide, and these new data provide further evidence of the importance of getting vaccinated every year.
