Ready2Respond (R2R) was a global collaboration of partners from the public, private and non-profit sectors created to augment low-and middle-income countries’ (LMICs) readiness to respond against influenza and emerging respiratory viral pandemics. Ready2Respond supported LMICs in utilizing seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccination programs as vital tools for epidemic and pandemic readiness.
Its initiatives aimed to ensure these vaccination programs remain relevant for next-generation influenza, COVID-19, and other future respiratory vaccines. By addressing gaps in data and capabilities, the goal was to help decision-makers to advance their vaccine policies, paving the way for increased and sustained vaccine access. COVID-19 reinforced a critical lesson for the public health community: the importance of planning and proactively testing vaccine delivery systems before a crisis occurs.
While Ready2Respond has halted its work, the real threat of another respiratory pandemic remains – underscoring the urgency of strengthening these systems to ensure an effective response in the future.
