New research led by PIVI highlights the critical role seasonal influenza vaccination programs play in helping countries respond more effectively to future pandemics. An analysis of 60 low- and middle-income countries found that nations with established influenza vaccination programs for health workers were able to deploy COVID-19 vaccines more quickly, overcome logistical challenges more effectively, and achieve significantly higher vaccination coverage than countries without existing programs. The findings reinforce PIVI’s core mission: partnering with countries to build sustainable vaccination systems that not only prevent seasonal respiratory diseases but also strengthen global pandemic preparedness and response capacity.
