New PIVI Study Shows Seasonal Flu Vaccination Programs Strengthen Pandemic Preparedness

New research led by PIVI highlights the critical role seasonal influenza vaccination programs play in helping countries respond more effectively to future pandemics. An analysis of 60 low- and middle-income countries found that nations with established influenza vaccination programs for health workers were able to deploy COVID-19 vaccines more quickly, overcome logistical challenges more effectively, and achieve significantly higher vaccination coverage than countries without existing programs. The findings reinforce PIVI’s core mission: partnering with countries to build sustainable vaccination systems that not only prevent seasonal respiratory diseases but also strengthen global pandemic preparedness and response capacity.
