Zambia’s Ministry of Health is leading a groundbreaking influenza and hepatitis B vaccination project targeting health workers. This project aims to strengthen Zambia’s Essential Programme on Immunization’s (EPI) capacity to vaccinate health workers against these diseases while assessing the feasibility of integrating health worker vaccination into national programs.
The project is a collaborative effort between the Zambian Ministry of Health, the Partnership for International Vaccine Initiatives (PIVI), the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Ciheb, a local NGO. Launched in October 2024, the initiative began with a stakeholder engagement workshop that brought together health workers, district and provincial managers, and NGO leaders to design effective implementation strategies.
